Entering Crunch Time

GOBi

With roughly 2.5 months before the starting gun of the Gobi March, I've entered into the real crunch time for training. 2.5 months may seem like a long time to some but, trust me, it's not. Fortunately, having already completed my two previous desert runs, many aspects of the race are already dialed in and I'm simply concentrating on conditioning, not what I'm having for dinner after stage 3! My daily training has taken on a more determined focus, including many high intensity, multiple session days. Hopefully on the backside of my recent ankle injury, I'm confident that I can arrive at the end of this period while on a peak and ready to give it my best effort in China.

Gold Medal Day

This week, I was also very pleased to announce my continued support of Special Olympics through this next race. Special Olympics is an organization close to my heart, as my niece Madison is herself a Special Olympian. Special Olympics facilitates and provides athletic opportunities for many who would otherwise have none. They help inspire all of us, and give some incredible individuals a platform to demonstrate unbelievable courage, perseverance, and talent. I'm very proud to be an ambassador for these guys! Learn about ways to donate to Special Olympics

Dances with DirtAs I previously noted, I'm hopefully in the final phases of recovery from a recent ankle injury. Owing to this small set-back, I thought it wise to cancel all but one of my scheduled races in the leading up to the Gobi March. I will, however, get the opportunity to run in the Dances with Dirt 50k in Gnawbone, Indiana on May 11. What's really special about this race is that I'll be pacing my youngest brother in his first ultra event. I'm definitely not going to miss that! It's going to be a really great experience that I'm excited to share with him and I can't wait.

That's all for now. Check back soon for further updates!

Sahara Race Wrap-Up Report

Sahara Race "12

Well, after 250km run through blistering heat, knee-deep sand, dehydration, malnourishment, and all on almost no sleep…I’m pleased to report that the 2012 Sahara Race is in the books! I can honestly say that this was not only the toughest race I’ve ever run, both physically and mentally, but also one of the most rewarding. It’s difficult to adequately convey in words the entirety of the experience, but in this race wrap-up I’d like to try to take you through the race week,...
