I recently got the privilege to go on a snowboarding trip to Europe. How lucky am I? =) The crew was my brother Conor, his girlfriend Tamamra, my trainer and great friend Chris and his girlfriend Coral. Feeling on cloud 9 the second we took off, the first stop was Geneva where we packed up the rental car and headed to St. Anton in Austria. We were fortunate enough to enjoy the area for 7 days and WOW, it was incredible. The spring snow, mountains so big it is hard to relate them to anything, endless amounts of terrain, soaking up all the culture, apres spots, great food, the list goes on and on!
From there we traveled to Verbier, Switzerland, where we managed to make our 4 hour drive take nearly 9 hours after all the stops and site seeing. We spent a total of 8 days in Verbier and our timing couldnt have been more amazing, as we showed up in time for the Freeride World Tour. This was something I had always wanted to see live and I finally got the opportunity. I knew that watching it on TV or streaming it on my computer wouldn't give the terrain justice, and it didn't. It was so massive and terrifying really. Mountains that I would be nervous to ride, while these athletes are going full speed with grace and huge cliff drops in their lines. It really was something you will have to see for yourself.
While we were there, I was able to catch up with my friend and fellow Nature's Bakery ambassador, Jackie Paaso. It was really awesome being able to watch her ski such an amazing line in pretty crumby conditions and make it on the podium! Jackie is an incredible and a truly great big mountain skier. We also got the chance to see our great friend Ralph Backstrom take first place for the men's snowboarding division. Very far away from home, but seeing two friends from California do so well in a prestigious contest, thats pretty dang awesome!
After Verbier, we then headed to 3 Valleys and then to Chamonix. These were great places to make lasting memories of some of the best adventures I have ever lived.
Stay tuned for my next blog post where I will show some more pictures of my amazing European adventures.
Be well, stay healthy
