Stay Motivated this Offseason

You trained for weeks, even months...liz2and your event came and went like Rachel Joyce through an aid station on the bike course. The buildup was epic, the race was everything you hoped it would be, and the elation of crossing the finish line was fantastic, but now it’s gone.  How can something you put so much time into preparing for come and go so quickly?  Winter is setting in, and the weather is cooling down.  What’s your next goal?  How do you stay in shape?

Here are some activities and tips for staying motivated during the offseason.

  1. Plan your event schedule for next year. There are so many beautiful venues to be experienced and courses to be conquered across the globe. Research your events, and begin planning your schedule. Ask yourself, what type of race suits you? Where would/could you like to travel to?
  2. Asses you gear, what worked, what needs improvement, make a list of wants/needs for next season to help accomplish your goals. Start shopping and look for sales on your next purchases.
  3. Start planning some winter activities. Cross training can be beneficial and make for some pretty incredible experiences. Skiing, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing are the tip of the iceberg. Find a good indoor cycling training program like trainerroad.com, to work on your weakness during the dark winter hours. Try out that new saddle, nutrition, or core workout you couldn’t do when in race season.
  4. Relax and rejuvenate. Enjoy the holidays! Have fun with friends and family. Stay healthy and fit, but even if you gain a pound or two, it can be a good thing for your long term health and help you get stronger for next season.

How to Succeed at Anything

Winning isn’t easy. If it were, everyone would be doing it. And by winning, I don’t mean winning a contest, or prize. I mean winning at life. To win at life you have to succeed and have little victories that add up to great success. And in order to succeed, you first have to START!

I can’t tell you how often I hear the endless list of reasons why people haven't started their new diet or workout routine. Don’t get me wrong, there have been times when I’ve felt the same way! There will be bad days, and...

Simple Health and Fitness: A Life Approach

What sells?  Magazine covers that read “5 minutes to a better body.”  Cookbooks that are titled “eat what you want and lose weight.”  Diet plans that advertise “Take this pill and get fit and firm”.  That sells because it’s an east fix, but the reality of getting the body you’ve dreamed of and the level of health and fitness you desire is simply not a quick fix.

So, with that said, the first thing you need to decide is do you want to achieve this?  I’m going to give you some very good reasons why your answer should be yes.
