Gluten Free has finally arrived! (Insert applause).
When Nature’s Bakery began back in 2010, we launched our brand beginning with delicious whole wheat fig bars leading with quality and thoughtful ingredients. As Nature’s Bakery grew in popularity, we expanded our Stone Ground Whole Wheat product line from three to eight flavors and added a seasonal pumpkin spice flavor. Our Fig Bars continued to grow in popularity and so did the requests for creating a Gluten Free Fig Bar.
With the rise of gluten intolerance, sensitivity and dietary changes coupled with the countless requests for a Gluten Free Fig Bar, we understood that this was the next step we wanted to take. Our goal was to offer a Fig Bar that catered to the community that not only eats gluten free, but also had high expectations for what gluten free products should taste like. After many months of testing and baking, we are delighted to share our brand new line of gluten Fig Bars made with Ancient Grains, in addition to offering you some insight.
So what is Gluten?
According to the Celiac Disease Foundation, gluten is the “general name for the proteins found in wheat, rye, barley and triticale” that helps give shape to all kinds of foods (Celiac Disease Foundation, 2015). Although not harmful to most, some people can have difficulty processing gluten. According to the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness 1 out of 133 people suffer from some sort of gluten intolerance.
Why we are going Gluten Free?
We love our Stone Ground Whole Wheat Fig Bars. However, we understand that those with gluten intolerance or those who choose to live gluten free lifestyles have been unable to enjoy them. By offering a gluten free option, we are hoping to introduce the Fig Bar quality and taste that people have come to enjoy and love to those with specialty diets.
What ingredients make up the Ancient Grains in Gluten Free Fig Bars?
With our Gluten Free Fig Bar initiative, we approached Smart Flour Foods who provided us with a special ancient grains blend - a combination of sorghum, amaranth, teff and tapioca, which make up the outside of our gluten free Fig Bar.
Grains like sorghum, amaranth, and teff, are called "ancient" because they've been in existence, unchanged, for millennia. This special ancient grains blend eliminates the gluten protein which is present in our Stone Ground Whole Wheat Fig Bars.
Are your Gluten Free Fig Bars certified Gluten Free?
Yes. Under the supervision of the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO), an industry program of the Gluten Intolerance Group we are proud to say our bars are certified gluten-free. All packaging carries the certified gluten free logo, which looks like this:
Do the Gluten Free Fig Bars have any other certifications or verifications like your Whole Wheat Fig Bars?
Yes. Like our Stone Ground Whole Wheat Fig Bars, the Gluten Free Fig Bars made with Ancient Grains will carry the Vegan Certification and Kosher certification, the Non-GMO Project verification as well as the Smart Flour logo.
We lead with quality in all of our baked products and purposely subject our products to third party scrutiny to ensure that product quality level we strive for is achieved. We feel it is important for people to know this, which is why we make it a point to add these certifications to our packaging.
What flavors do you offer for the Ancient Grains Gluten Free Fig Bar?
Currently we offer four delicious flavors: Original Fig, Pomegranate, Blueberry and Raspberry. We are hoping to expand with new flavors in the future.
Where can we purchase the Fig Bars?
You currently can buy our Gluten Free Fig Bars on Amazon: Purchase Here and will be available at select retailers this summer.
What's to come?
The year 2015 is looking to be an exciting year for us here at Nature’s Bakery. We have many new product projects underway and are looking forward to sharing them with you in the near future.
