SAFE AS Clinics 2015

For the fourth year in a row the ladies of SAFE AS Clinics have been helping educate other ladies on how to be smart and safe in the mountains! For the 2015 season we traveled to Squaw Valley, CA., the site of the original stop in 2012 then over to Copper Mountain, Colorado. We had four sold out stops, two at each location. We awarded 17 full and partial scholarships thanks to Live Like Liz, SheJumps and Coalition Snow. With the help of our wonderful attendees we raised over $5,500.00 for The High Five's Foundation, The Sierra Avalanche Center and The Avalanche Project, bringing our 4 year total to just shy of $20,000.00!

For Michelle Parker, Elyse Saugstad, Ingrid Backstrom, Lel Tone, Robin Van Gyn, Sherry McConkey and myself it's a busy yet wonderful time of the season. I think I can speak for the rest of the ladies when I say it means so much for us to be able to share our knowledge and experiences to help others stay safe in the mountains. We love to spend every waking moment exploring the backcountry but we are no strangers to the dangers that do exist. As educators we are able to refresh our own knowledge while thinking about new and interesting information to share.

We are also very thankful for the amazing women that have joined us at each resort. The patrol at both Squaw Valley and Copper Mountain are a very important resource for the general public to contact. When we leave it's important to us that the women have others to contact in order to continue their education and making smart decisions. That's where your local ski patrol comes into play. They spend all their time working in your local snowpack and are great resources to find out what's been going on over the season.IMG_5942

So before heading out into the backcountry this season remember to check your local avalanche forecast daily, get education or refresh your knowledge and practice using your gear!
