Life after the 2015 Red Bull Rampage

I have remained fairly incognito regarding my recent surgery, but it was a pretty serious operation. My career has lasted 20 years since my first race without the need to repair anything from the wrists up. My shoulder has been nagging since a crash just before the 2015 Red Bull Rampage, where I tore my SC Joint, which is where the collarbone attaches to the sternum. BikeIt was dislocating every time I pulled up on the bars and kiiiiilling me, but I was able to compete in Utah for the 10th anniversary of the event.

Since then, I took some time off and the SC Joint eventually started to feel better, but compensating for the SC Joint, mixed with other prior complications (bone spurs and years of crashing), the actual shoulder joint developed some nasty tears in the labrum and bicep tendon.

With Crankworx, New Zealand coming in just a few months, I reluctantly had surgery in mid-January. When I woke up all I heard was the doctor telling me how annihilated it was in there. It's like taking your car in because it's making a funny noise and they fix a number of things. I was very very stoked on my decision to have them overhaul my Sam Bradford...

When you live your life a certain way for so long it is hard to feel normal when you aren't on your bike or doing other activities that you love so much. I just started riding again, very minimal, as I'm still hurting and far from 100%. A normal patient with a normal job would be told to take 6 months off from the same procedure. I am trying to make Crankworx, New Zealand here in just a few weeks, which will be less than 2 months post-op.

FigBarsDespite the weak-wing being sore from riding this week, I am going to try to enjoy some groomers up at Squaw, shoot some photos for my new tire sponsor, Michelin, and then ride the Woodward Tahoe foam pit. Loaded up the bikes, skis, boards, dog and my favorite Nature's Bakery Fig Bars, it's going to be an awesome day!

I love Northern Nevada, and Lake Tahoe...
